Screen annotation tool for Windows that draws over live apps
Point, draw and circle on anything on your screen while it keeps running. Laser, Pen, Arrow and Eraser are free forever on Windows 10 and 11, one hotkey away over every app, and Zoom, Teams and OBS capture every stroke when you share or record the entire screen.
How do you draw on screen in Windows 11 while presenting?
Windows 11 has no built-in pen that draws over running apps: Snipping Tool marks up a captured screenshot, and PowerPoint’s pen works only inside a slide show. Install SHARA, hold Ctrl+Win+X (or open the Ctrl+Space Wheel, or use the docked toolbar) and draw over any app while it keeps running. Share your entire screen and your audience sees every stroke.
Open, draw, fix, get out
- Open the Wheel at your cursor. Hold Ctrl+Space and flick toward Draw, Shape, Erase or Screen, then release. A quick tap pins the Wheel open instead. Prefer something always in sight? The docked toolbar at a screen edge holds the same tools.
- Or go straight to a tool. Hold Ctrl+Win+X to draw with your equipped tool, Ctrl+Win+W for shapes, Ctrl+Win+Y to erase. Hold is the default; each can be set to toggle.
- Adjust without a settings window. On the Wheel, arrow keys or the mouse wheel change pen thickness or shape type; Shift or Alt + wheel for fine steps.
- Fix it or leave. Ctrl+Z undoes your last stroke, and pressing Esc exits annotation instantly. A right-click also exits drawing.
“SHARA has earned a permanent place in my training toolkit. The exceptionally smooth and clear writing, even at very small sizes, and the brilliant Ctrl+Space workflow that puts every tool right where my mouse is make live annotation remarkably effortless, letting me focus on teaching rather than managing the tool.”

Ctrl+Win+W, shapes modeClean boxes around a panel, circles around a value, straight lines for a quick diagram.
Ctrl+Win+W, shapes modeRemove one stroke and keep the rest. Ctrl+Win+B clears everything at once.
Ctrl+Win+YType a label right on the screen, with an optional backing so it reads over busy content. Pin a number, name a step.
Ctrl+Win+I, or Screen on the WheelA white, black or grid board over your desktop when you need a blank page. Same pen, shapes and Text on top.
Ctrl+Win+K, or Screen on the WheelCapture the screen with your ink on it, saved to Pictures or copied to the clipboard, ready to paste into the chat.
Toolbar, or Screen on the WheelTwo presses of Esc, three states
Most tools make you choose between keeping your ink and using your computer. SHARA doesn’t.
Your clicks draw
Hold Ctrl+Win+X or pick a tool on the Wheel or toolbar. Ink lands over the running app.
Ink stays, you work
Clicks and typing go back to your apps. Scroll, run the demo, answer a question; your marks stay put.
Clean screen
The second Esc erases all ink and shapes. Ready for the next point.
Nothing freezes. SHARA draws on a transparent layer above your apps, not on a screenshot, so videos play, dashboards refresh and code keeps running under your ink. Teachers use it to annotate a live lesson on a projector or a call, and presenters to mark up a shared dashboard in Zoom or Teams.

Your ink shows up in the meeting and the recording
- Zoom and Microsoft Teams: share your entire screen. A single-window share doesn’t capture SHARA’s ink.
- Google Meet: present your entire screen.
- OBS Studio: a Display Capture source records every stroke.
- Camtasia Recorder: captures all overlays, full screen or region.
- Presenter Mode: hides the Ctrl+Space Wheel from recordings, so viewers see the ink appear but never the menu.
Overlays render on a system layer captured natively by Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet and OBS. Presenter Mode hides the Ctrl+Space Wheel from recordings. In Zoom or Teams, share your entire screen: a single-window share doesn’t capture SHARA’s overlay. SHARA is DPI-calibrated, so ink stays aligned on 4K and on multi-monitor setups with mixed scaling.
