Use SHARA on multiple monitors and 4K screens

SHARA works on several monitors, an ultrawide and 4K screens with nothing to set up. One overlay covers every monitor, it reads each monitor’s own Windows scale, and the toolbar, board, screenshot and Live Zoom follow your pointer. This page shows which monitor each tool uses and what to check if something looks off.

How SHARA covers your screens#

Nothing to install or switch on: SHARA handles several monitors by default.

  • One overlay, every monitor. SHARA sizes its overlay to the whole Windows desktop, so the halo and ink can sit on any screen. Windows calls that area the virtual screen.
  • Per-monitor scale. SHARA is set up as PerMonitorV2 DPI aware, which is the setting that lets Windows keep an app sharp when monitors use different scales.
  • It follows layout changes. When a monitor is added or removed, or its resolution changes, SHARA resizes the overlay to match.
  • Live Zoom centring. SHARA 4.3.3 fixed Live Zoom centring on multi-monitor and ultrawide set-ups.

Which monitor each tool uses#

Some tools work on one screen at a time. This table shows which one.

How SHARA 4.3.3 picks a monitor, from the app’s code (read November 2, 2026). We have not run every row on a multi-monitor PC.
Monitor it usesGood to know
Halo, Laser and inkAll of them. One overlay covers the whole desktop. The halo follows the pointer from monitor to monitor.
Docked toolbarThe monitor where you drop it.It docks to that monitor’s usable area (the part the taskbar leaves free) and is sized for that monitor’s scale. On a short or narrow screen it shrinks to fit.
WhiteboardThe monitor under the pointer when you open it.It covers that one monitor with its own ink.
ScreenshotThe monitor under the pointer. With the Whiteboard open, it takes the Whiteboard’s monitor. There is no region selection.
Keystroke pillThe active monitor, when you pick a fixed place.Follow keeps it with the pointer. Bottom, Bottom-left and Top sit on the active monitor.
Live ZoomThe whole desktop, centred on the pointer. The view stops at the edge of the combined screen area.
Broadcast windowThe monitor under the pointer. It switches when the pointer crosses to another monitor.

To move the docked toolbar to another monitor, drag it there and let go. It snaps to the nearest edge of that monitor.

Mixed scaling and 4K#

A 4K monitor is usually set to 125% or 150% in Windows, and a 1080p monitor beside it to 100%. SHARA reads each monitor’s own scale, so you do not need to match them. To check or change a scale:

  1. Open Windows Settings and select System, then Display.
  2. Select a monitor in the diagram at the top.
  3. Under Scale & layout, select Scale and pick an option. Microsoft recommends the one marked (Recommended). On Windows 10 the heading reads Scale and layout.
  4. Repeat for the other monitors, then try the halo on each one.

Source: Microsoft Support, “Change your screen resolution and layout in Windows” (read November 2, 2026). Some apps look blurry after you change a scale until you close and reopen them. If SHARA does, close it from the tray icon and open it again.

If something looks off#

  1. Wait a moment after the change. SHARA re-fits to a new monitor layout on its own when Windows reports it.
  2. Turn SHARA off and on. Press Ctrl+Win+Z twice. This is our suggestion, not a documented fix.
  3. Check each monitor’s Windows scale with the steps above.
  4. Check what the tool uses. If the Whiteboard or a screenshot is on the wrong screen, move the pointer to the monitor you want before you open it.

Presenting with more than one screen#

Press Win+P to choose how Windows uses a second screen. With Duplicate, SHARA pauses halo auto-hide so your audience keeps seeing the halo. With Extend, the audience sees only the screen you share, so draw on that one. SHARA with PowerPoint has the table, and viewers can’t see your drawing covers call apps.

Questions#

Does SHARA work on multiple monitors?

Yes. SHARA draws one overlay over the whole Windows desktop, so the halo and your ink work on every monitor with no setting to turn on. Tools that need one screen, such as the Whiteboard and the screenshot, use the monitor under your pointer.

Does SHARA work on 4K and high-DPI screens?

Yes. SHARA declares itself per-monitor DPI aware (PerMonitorV2), so Windows does not stretch it into a blurry bitmap, and it reads the scale of the monitor it is working on. There is no 4K setting to find.

Can I use different scaling on each monitor?

Yes. Windows lets you set a scale per monitor, for example 150% on a 4K display and 100% on a 1080p one. SHARA reads each monitor’s scale separately.

SHARA looks off after I plugged in a monitor. What now?

SHARA re-fits itself when Windows reports a display change, such as a monitor added or removed or a new resolution. If the halo or ink still looks offset, turn SHARA off and on with Ctrl+Win+Z, then check the Windows scale in the next section. This reset is our suggestion and we have not tested it on every display set-up.

Why does the halo stay on when I present with two screens?

When your displays are duplicated, SHARA pauses its halo auto-hide so the audience keeps seeing it. SHARA with PowerPoint has the full table.

Is SHARA free on multiple monitors?

Yes. The halo, Laser, Pen, Arrow, Text and Eraser are free on any number of monitors. The 14-day trial covers the rest of SHARA, and what locks afterwards is listed on the free trial and Pro page.

If it doesn’t work

The SHARA FAQ has the short answers. For a share that shows no ink, start with viewers can’t see your drawing.
