Viewers can’t see your SHARA drawing

If viewers in Teams, Zoom, Discord or OBS can’t see your SHARA halo or ink, you are almost certainly sharing one window instead of the screen. Stop sharing, then start again with your entire screen. SHARA draws on its own layer above your apps, so only a screen share picks it up.

The fix: share the screen, not a window#

Stop your share, start it again and pick the screen. This is the choice that matters in each app.

Then draw a stroke. Viewers should see it within a second or two. Guides with the full steps: share your screen in Teams, draw on a Discord screen share and show mouse clicks in OBS.

Why a window share misses SHARA#

SHARA does not live inside any app. It puts a transparent layer on top of the whole screen. A window share captures one app’s window, so anything drawn above it is not part of the picture. This is how window capture works, and it is why a screen share, or OBS’s Display Capture (which captures a whole monitor, with other windows and overlays), carries your ink.

Several monitors and duplicated displays#

  1. Pick the monitor you present on. In the share picker, choose the screen that holds the slides or app you are showing, and draw on that one.
  2. Duplicated displays work. When the same picture goes to a projector, SHARA pauses the halo’s auto-hide, so the halo does not fade while you present.
  3. Check zoom and scaling too. Mixed-DPI and ultrawide setups are covered on multiple monitors and 4K.

Keep the Wheel and toolbar out of the share#

Viewers see the Wheel and the docked toolbar unless you hide them. The ink stays visible. This is off by default.

  1. Open SHARA Settings from the tray icon.
  2. Select the Tutor tab.
  3. Select the Wheel display settings button (top right of the tab).
  4. Under Recording, choose Hidden. The Wheel and the toolbar then stay out of captures. You still see them.

If Windows or your recorder refuses the request, SHARA switches the setting back to Visible so it never claims protection it does not have. Test with a short recording first. Hide from capture has the details.

Questions#

Why can I see my drawing but viewers can’t?

SHARA draws on a transparent layer above your apps, on your screen. A window share sends only the picture of one app window, so that layer is not in it. A screen share (or a Display Capture in OBS) sends everything on the monitor, including the layer.

Will viewers see the Wheel and the toolbar?

By default, yes: the Wheel and toolbar are visible to capture. To keep them out of a share or recording while your ink stays visible, set Recording to Hidden, as shown above. More on hiding SHARA from capture.

Does SHARA work with a window share at all?

It still works on your own screen, and anyone sitting in the room sees it. Only the remote viewers of a single-window share miss it. If you must share one window, SHARA’s ink will not reach them.

Does this also apply to recordings?

Yes. Record the whole display: in OBS use a Display Capture, and in a meeting recording share your screen. Show mouse clicks in OBS walks through the OBS setup.

I shared the screen and viewers still can’t see it. What now?

Check that SHARA is on (Ctrl+Win+Z turns it off and on), and that you can see the ink yourself. Then check the share is the monitor you are drawing on. In a managed Teams tenant an admin can limit what you may share; ask them whether sharing your entire screen is allowed. You can also try the screen share test.

If it doesn’t work
