Update or uninstall SHARA
SHARA updates through the Microsoft Store like any Store app, and reopens itself afterwards. To keep your setup safe, export your settings first from Settings, System, Backup & reset. To remove SHARA, use Windows Settings, Apps, Installed apps. Reinstalling is free from the Store.
Update SHARA#
SHARA gets new versions from the Microsoft Store. Most of the time the Store does this on its own. To update now:
- Open the Microsoft Store. Select Start, then Microsoft Store.
- Select Library, then Get updates. On Windows 10 the same screen can sit under See more, then Downloads and updates. Microsoft’s own page also names a Check for updates button.
- Wait for SHARA to finish updating. If SHARA is running, Windows closes it to update it. SHARA registers with Windows to reopen itself after an update.
- Check the version. Open Settings and select the About button. The About window shows the version number.
Free to install. The free tools never expire.
Download free fromView onMicrosoft StoreFree forever: cursor halo, click animation, Pen, Laser, Arrow, Text, Eraser, Screenshot and the Ctrl+Space Wheel. Every Pro tool is free for your first 14 days, with no card and no account. After that, Pro is a one-time purchase ($19.99 in the US). See pricing and the 14-day trial →
Back up your settings (and move them to another PC)#
SHARA keeps your settings in a file on your PC. Exporting makes a copy you can keep, or import on another PC.
- Open SHARA’s Settings and select the System tab. Find the Backup & reset card.
- Select Export. Save the file. The suggested name is
shara-settings.json. A toast says “Settings exported”. - To bring the settings back, select Import and choose that file. A toast says “Settings imported”. If the file is not a valid settings file, SHARA says the import failed and keeps what you had.
Uninstall SHARA#
- Quit SHARA first (optional). Right-click the SHARA icon in the tray and choose Exit.
- Open Windows Settings, then Apps, then Installed apps. On Windows 10 this is Apps & features.
- Find SHARA, select More (the three dots), then Uninstall. Confirm when Windows asks. You can also right-click SHARA in the Start menu and pick Uninstall.
SHARA has no account or cloud data to delete. We have not checked which files Windows leaves behind after an uninstall, so we do not claim a clean removal. If you want your setup back later, export your settings first.
Microsoft’s Uninstall or remove apps and programs in Windows page also describes Repair and Reset for an app that misbehaves, and the Control Panel route for apps Settings cannot remove. Not every app offers Repair or Reset.
Reinstall and restore#
- Install SHARA again from the Store. Follow Install SHARA. It is free and needs no account.
- Import your settings file if you exported one. Settings, System, Backup & reset, then Import.
- If you bought Pro, restore it. Use Already purchased? Restore purchase with your email, key or
txn_ID. Free trial and Pro has the steps.
