Use SHARA in a Google Meet call
To show SHARA in Google Meet, click Present now, choose Your entire screen and click Share. SHARA draws on your own screen, so it needs nothing from Meet: no extra setting and no add-on. Your halo, laser and ink reach every participant who can see your presentation.
Set up the share#
Do this once per call, in Meet in your browser on Windows. The labels follow Google’s help page and can differ a little between versions.
- Make sure SHARA is on. The halo follows your pointer, and Ctrl+Win+Z turns all of SHARA off and on.
- Join the meeting.
- At the bottom, click Present now.
- Select Your entire screen. Do not pick A window or A tab: those leave SHARA’s overlay out.
- Click Share. Meet shows You are presenting at the bottom right.
- Hold Ctrl+Space and release on a tool, or pick one from the docked toolbar. Draw a stroke and ask someone to confirm it appears.
With two monitors, choose the display that holds what you are showing and draw on that one. To stop, click Stop Presenting in the Meet window, or click You are presenting, then Stop presenting. SHARA keeps running.
Sound is separate. For a window or your entire screen, turn on Also share system audio in the selection dialog if you want participants to hear a video. Source: Google Meet Help.
Entire screen, window or tab#
Meet offers three things to present. SHARA is a transparent layer on top of your Windows screen, so it is only part of what Meet sends when Meet sends the screen.
| What Meet shares | SHARA overlay | |
|---|---|---|
| Your entire screen | Everything on the chosen display. | Visible. The halo, ink and tools are part of the screen. |
| A window | Only that app’s window. | Left out. The overlay is not part of the app window. |
| A tab | Only one Chrome tab. | Left out. Only the page in that tab is sent. |
If someone else is already presenting, click Present now, choose your source and click Present instead. Google notes that their presentation pauses when you do. Clicking Unpin after you start shows your presentation as a tile, so you see more participants.
Draw during the call#
- Point first. The halo keeps your pointer easy to follow. Pause on the sentence you are explaining.
- Use the Laser for quick points. Its trail fades by itself after about 2.6 seconds, so nothing is left behind.
- Use the Pen or Arrow for a longer point. Ctrl+Z undoes the last stroke.
- Clear the screen before you move on, so old ink does not sit over the next slide.
Meet’s own “You are presenting” controls sit at the bottom of the browser window. Keep your pen above them.
Keep the Wheel and toolbar out of the share#
Participants can see the Wheel and the docked toolbar unless you hide them. Your ink stays visible. This is off by default.
- Open SHARA Settings from the tray icon.
- Select the Tutor tab.
- Select the Wheel display settings button (top right of the tab).
- Under Recording, choose Hidden. You still see the tools; capture does not.
If Windows refuses the request, SHARA switches the setting back to Visible. Test with a short call first. Hide from capture has the details.
